Will Gucci Make Flash Sneakers Exclusive?

Submitted by Mario Davies on August 12, 2009 – 10:31 am2 Comments

With the recessions taking its toll on the fashion industry Gucci has developed new strategy – temporary concept stores for flash sneakers. These stores will travel the world and stop for a limited time in six or seven locations where the hip and cool crowd gathers.

What await you are the two lines with exclusive design. The first one, Gucci Icon-Temporary, will have 16 models for men and only two for women. The classical Gucci logo – GG will be seen all over those funky sneakers. The color scheme will borrow from the red and green web color pattern and each shoe will be embroidered with a “Limited Edition” label inside. As a final touch silver or gold metal dog taps will be hanging from laces and shoe laces can be customized with your initials!

Second design concept is collaboration with DJ and music producer Mark Ronson, our fellow Brit who won Best Male Artist title at the BRIT Awards in 2008. There’s little surprise why Gucci choose to work with Ronson. This year GQ Magazine has voted him as the most stylish man in the UK. With every new location a new Ronson sneaker version will be introduced. We are looking forward to see what Gucci is going to be bringing to Ronson’s hometown London, and will report back with exclusive coverage.

The tour kicks off in New York’s SoHo on 23rd October at Crosby Street and confirmed locations so far include London, Berlin, Paris Hong Kong and Tokyo. Sneakers are going to sell between $500 and $1400 for the Icon-Temporary collection and $500 to $600 for the Ronson designs.

We are looking forward to see how this idea is going to develop and if any of the brands are going to follow the suit.
