The Ageless Era

Submitted by Jason Stringer on July 15, 2009 – 12:00 pmOne Comment

When I think about what precisely captures the allure that truly encapsulates style in it’s ageless form, I always seem to look for the elegance that is maturity and wisdom. The media still bombards us all with the airbrushed appeal of youth which strikes fear in many of us. What are we to do when we no longer have youth on our side? Fade away? Become invisible? Not even the models have that kind of youth perfection on their side, but still, we go along with what they tell us and fear the inevitable, but the world is changing. In fact, the world is growing up.

I have two idols in my life. One, the ever beautiful and mesmerizing, Carmen Dell’Orefice. In my eyes a true supermodel that, even today at 78 years of age, still graces the catwalks and glossy ads in high end magazines such as Vogue. Far from having the perfect life, but still glowing with an eternal flame that continues to burn brightly within. The other, an ever sexy and charming, Sean Connery who at 79 still cuts a dash over the younger Bond of today, with a passion to wield the power of experience and stand out from the crowd to claim his rightful place in history till the very end. No boundaries, no limits, just a confident sense of self.

I am sure that most stars of this age have had a freshen up in some form or another, but they stand not only for the people who made a success of their dreams, but also for a world that is slowly but surely coming round to the thought that people are living longer and have more life to live than ever before. Why at the tender age of 65 do the older generation have to retire from life? Let alone retire from being sexy, stylish and desirable.

Madonna (take a look on the pop-queen latest photo shoot for Louis Vuitton), George Clooney, Sharon Stone, Diana Ross, Kim Cattrall. The list is getting ever longer for the people that still represent a seductive age to look forward to. Experience and a sense of control in their lives is far sexier that a young 21 year old dressing up in designer clothes trying to emulate those very people that know what sexy is.

Carmen Dell’Orefice modeled for Qasimi (read our article on Mariano Vivanco’s wonderful creation for Qasimi) at this years London fashion week. Sharon Stone is the face of Dior Capture skin-care. Sean Connery roguishly poses for Louis Vuitton. As we look at these images, we see an ageless yet mature sex appeal that the younger generation want to get to know and the older generation admire for breaking the rules.

As a 30 something myself this gives me hope that, with the proper care and maintenance, I too will have a life after youth. That in my later years I can still say, yeah, I have an ageless style that developed from getting to know myself and acting on my dreams. That glint in the eye which tells people, I have lived life to the full and I still have life to live.

I love this! It’s so refreshing to see a different take on beauty. I am a more mature woman and feel completely the same, why should age judge whether or not you are still sexy?!

I want to see more like this!
