Glastonbury 2009 – UK’s Most Famous Festival is Here
Here at SHINE Magazine we love sunshine, beach and sea, but we also don’t mind a little bit of fun in the mud and rain, especially when it comes to attending Glastonbury festival. And just look at the weather forecast – heavy rain showers! Expectations will be met!
For those of you, dear readers, who are not familiar (where are you from – please tell us!) with the UK’s most famous festival, it is the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world and a template for all the festivals that have come after it. It was started in 1970 the day after Jimi Hendrix has died. Back in the days it was 1 British pound to attend and you would get free milk from the local farm, now it is 175 British pounds (285 USD) and no free milk!
The festivals main difference is that Glastonbury has all the best aspects of being at a festival in one astonishing bundle. Then there are the people, thousands of them in all their astonishing and splendid diversity! For people festival offers more opportunity than any other happening to have the best weekend of the year or even of a life-time, and they are determined to have it! You would meet all kinds of people, of all ages, backgrounds, nationalities, lifestyles, faiths, concepts of fashion (or lack of it) and musical taste.
The diversity of music and style is incredible. Here we have commercial aspects represented, dance and jazz worlds and even chill out. Fans won’t be disappointed! And not only because of legendary weather, but mainly because of incredible lineup of great artists. We have Prodigy, Bruce Springsteen, Blur and Neil Young hitting the stage. N*E*R*D and Lilly Allen, Tom Jones is back and bad-boy-turning-good Peter Doherty! Some of the names we even haven’t heard before, but we are sure people will love them! Take a look at the full lineup on the festivals official website.
And for those, who are not into camping, mud and rain mix, or just couldn’t make it this year – fear not, as BBC has the total coverage of the festival on their dedicated website.
