Summer 2009 Makeup Trends

Submitted by Jason Stringer on June 21, 2009 – 14:08 pmNo Comment

The summer is here and it’s high time we ditched the winter makeup and embraced the sunshine. We have taken 4 of the coolest trends from the catwalks to bring you the essential summer 2009 looks.

Calvin Klein’s fresh face makes the perfect daytime look. Sheer luminous skin says barely there makeup. Think iridescent pastels for eyes and nude lips. Accentuate with a little liquid eye liner and a naturally lengthening mascara.

Prep the skin with a light reflecting moisturiser, try Shiseido White Lucency SPF 15 Day Emulsion. It’s light weight and non greasy texture makes a great base for foundation. Keep the cover light and sheer to create the freshness. Try Mineral make-ups – M.A.C Mineralize Satin finish SPF 15 Foundation or Dior Skin Nude Fluid Foundation, these light reflecting, sheer based foundations give a flawless cover but without the heavy look. For the eyes try Dior 5 Colours Iridescent Eye-shadow . Pearly with a hint of colour, use a thin line of liquid liner and a coat of mascara. The lips are nude. Gloss or pale pink lipstick are ideal to keep it fresh, I like the M.A.C lipsticks. Finally instead of powder blush, try Clinique Quick Blush for a creamy, soft cheek colour or illuminate with Benefit Moonbeam.

If you feel like a bit more colour, we have taken an 80’s inspired look at Gucci. Think bright, bold colours. Greens and purples with eye liner and volumising mascara. With the attention on the eye keep the lips simple with pinks or lighter shades. If you want the more full on 80’s clash the colours, think bright pink, orange and yellow. For the more chic look less is more with cheek colour, but for more impact go bright!

I am loving the M.A.C Hello Kitty Eye Shadow 4: Too Dolly or their single colour ready eye shadows. They have a bright colour to suit every mood. Try Clinique’s New High Impact Curling Mascara, marvellous for building the look.

So far we have missed the usual bronzed look that summer can bring. But don’t fear, for all you bronzed beauties out there we have the perfect look for you. Taken from Emilio Puccini’s show, we have a brown and golden toned all occasion style. Try to keep the freshness there by using bronzing liquids to highlight and add the golden glow. Sisley Phyto Touche Sun Glow Gel or Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Luminous Liquid Bronzer (limited edition) are some of the best liquids around. Mix them into your foundation or use as blush to highlight those naturally sun kissed area. M.A.C Mineralize Eye Shadow (Duo), Illusionary/Burning Ambition are the perfect eye washes, glowing and golden. For lips keep it as simple as before, try Estee Lauder Pure Colour Gloss Stick in Orange Poppy and Pop Pink.

Red Red Red! I love this look. Classic and sexy. Taken from Louis Vuitton we have vivid red lips and dark smokey eyes. Chanel do the best red lipstick for this look. Pop a little gloss over the top to finish the seductive look. Bobbi Brown have launched a range of Platinum Cream Eye Shadows perfect for the smoked up eye. Use a soft black eye liner which you can easily blend to finish off the smokey story and add black mascara.
